Extracta

extracta-logoEXTRACTA is a private Brazilian R&D company with headquarters at BIO-RIO Science Park, on the campus of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Set up as an interface between Science and Industry, EXTRACTA searches Brazilian plant biodiversity for novel molecular backbones that prove to be active against specific targets of interest to clients in the health and agro-industrial sectors.

CORE COMPETENCE

EXTRACTA — and its enabling biotechnologies platform — enjoys a first-mover advantage in dealing with legal, authorised access to Brazilian Biodiversity. Its strong product development pipeline leads to patented novel phytotherapies and lead molecules to be further developed as pharmaceuticals and environment-friendly agroproducts. The final company product traded with Brazilian and international clients is therefore technology, not raw materials or their derivatives. Beyond retribution of direct research costs, the Company earns Intellectual Property (IP) retributions, which are redistributed inside Brazil to EXTRACTA and its collaborators and co-inventors, ranging from landowners to scientific institutions. The whole operation was devised as a working model of the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity by providing legal international access to Brazilian biodiversity while ensuring that equitable benefi ts are returned to the country in the form of comprehensive technology exchanges, funding for research and support for sustainable development activities that aggregate value to Nature.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

EXTRACTA CHEMICAL BIODIVERSITY BANK®
EXTRACTA basic asset is its rapidly growing collection of natural products extracted from plants, nearly 40,000 samples ready for screening against bioassays in a 96-well plate format. The library contains nearly 5,000 plant species professionally collected in the Atlantic Rain Forest and Oriental Amazon.

TECHNICAL SERVICES FOR RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY

The Company is fully equipped to perform high throughput screening of its collection against innovative biological targets.

R&D NETWORKING

EXTRACTA has close links with Brazilian Science and Technology and seeks to contribute to the development of fundamental and applied research related to Nature, its Conservation and its sustainable exploitation.
